Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ cup creamy peanut butter
  • ½ cup brown sugar packed
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 16 pieces chocolate kisses unwrapped

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8x8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter, peanut butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until fully incorporated.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix until just combined.
  • Spread the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Remove from the oven and immediately press chocolate kisses into the surface of the bars while they are still warm.
  • Let the bars cool completely before slicing into squares.

Notes

For a twist, try using mini peanut butter cups instead of chocolate kisses. Store the bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. For extra gooey chocolate, slightly warm the bars before serving.
